Description
Part of my ongoing MIGRAR series, this piece explores the lives and legacies of migrant people throughout the world.
Study of The Palmist is an illustrated interpretation of Leonora Carrington’s surrealist sculpture, created as a symbol protection and good luck. Carrington herself migrated from Europe to Mexico City during the 1940’s where she lived and worked for the rest of her life.
I used tempera paint sticks, colored pencils, and fine liners to study her form after visiting the original sculpture at the Museo Nacional de Arte (MUNAL) in Mexico City
